At the 37th Poitiers – rencontres internationales des écoles de cinéma festival Johana Švarcová's film AHOJ, MÁM SE DOBŘE (Hi, I'm Doing Fine) won the Prix de la mise en scène.

FAMU animation achievements

The animated film The New Species by Kateřina Karhánková won the award for Best Student Film of the Balkanima 2014 Festival.

Martin Máj's animated film Punch and Judy won the award for best animated film at the Bastau International Film Festival of Student Film 2014 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Alexandra Hetmerová's animated film Mythopolis continues to rake in awards. ReAnimania IAFF 2014 – Best Student Film, Primanima – Children's Jury Award, 21st International Film Festival Etiuda&Anima 2014 – Audience Award


Honourable mention for Adéla Márová from Czech Press Photo

Adéla Márová, a student at the Cinematography Department, got an honourable mention from Czech Press Photo for her chronicle of the life of Jiří Vojta. Watch HERE



At the start of November, a creative meeting of five departments of editing from selected Central European film schools and universities specializing in film editing took place at FAMU.

Meeting participants: Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU), Czech Republic The Leon Schiller National Higher School of Film, Television and Theatre in Łódź (PWSFTviT), Poland Academy of Dramatic Art, University of Zagreb (ADU), Croatia Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (VŠMU), Slovakia Filmuniversität Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF, Germany.



The 31st Famufest '14 "From The Right From The Left" took place in Prague on 26. - 30. 11. 2014. The hosts of the festival were Ágnes Kocsis, Szabolcs Hajdu, Keith Miller, Eszter Hajdú and Meryll Hardt. You can find a complete list of winners from the competition section of Famufest 2014 HERE

Review of films by contemporary artists from Buenos Aires

A two-day review of films by contemporary artists from Buenos Aires who experiment with film material. Films by Pablo Mazzolo (ARG), Benjamin Ellenberger (ARG) and Azucena Losana (MEX) were presented, with the filmmakers themselves in attendance.

GYULA GAZDAG: The Secrets of Successful European Debuts

The internationally renowned director, who also heads the prestigious Sundance Directors Lab, discussed the work of young filmmakers in the context of successful Czech debuts. The master class was conducted as part of the mini-MIDPOINT dramaturgical workshop: How to Recognize a Potential Story?
